Fine-tuning Loog’s music learning apps with interfaces that hit all the right notes.

Loog

Loog makes musical instruments for kids — including their signature three-string guitars — designed to make learning music feel simple, fun, and empowering. With the release of their mobile app, they took this experience further: turning music lessons into an interactive game, full of songs, videos, and playful feedback. We teamed up to rethink the experience behind the Loog Guitar app and ensure that it matched the brand’s playful spirit. From visual consistency to UX clarity, our role was to design a product that was just as enjoyable to use as it was helpful for learning.

Designing for Tiny Hands (and Big Imaginations)

To better understand how children interact with music, we started with user research — speaking with music instructors and gathering insights through surveys with parents. Our goal was to find the balance between structure and spontaneity, designing interactions that would feel fun, focused, and rewarding. The result was an interface made of bold colors, clear navigation, and intuitive visual cues — all optimized for small screens and short attention spans. We also designed a tablet-friendly version to support more flexible play.

Characters That Make It Personal

To bring the experience to life, we created a full set of animated characters that guided users through each step of their learning journey. These visuals added an extra layer of personality and gave kids a way to customize their app experience — turning lessons into a more dynamic, engaging game.

Expanding the Universe: Loog Piano

Following the success of the guitar app, Loog introduced a new product: a piano. We joined them again to design a fresh version of the app, this time tailored to the piano’s unique interactions and flow. The new app built on our previous design work while exploring new animations, visuals, and gestures — all while staying true to the brand's educational mission and aesthetic.
